10 ways to prevent hair breakage

The ten tips below can help you stop worrying about hair breakage.

1. Be careful when brushing wet hair

Hair breaks more easily when wet, so never pull wet curls with a comb. Instead, slowly comb through damp hair with a wide-toothed comb, starting at the roots and working your way up to the roots.

2. Limit the number of times you brush your hair

Contrary to what you were taught as a child, brushing your hair 100 times a day is not the way to get shiny hair — quite the opposite. The AAD states that brushing your hair 100 times a day can actually lead to split ends forming, leading to breakage, so put the brush down. Remember not to brush your hair too many times a day.

3. Protect hair from heat

As we mentioned above, styling your hair with too much heat can lead to breakage, so it's important to apply a protective hair cream before getting started. When using a heat generator, choose the lowest heat setting and only work each section of hair at a time. This is especially important if you have curls and want to avoid broken curls because your hair type is more sensitive and heat damage can affect your curl pattern over time. In general, the less heat you use, the better.

4. Use hair restoration treatment

Adding a hair conditioner to your routine can make a big difference when you're trying to avoid breakage. Consider Nubeà Sustenia Conditioning Oil - Moisturizing 1000ml . Water that is too hot can remove essential oils, leaving your hair feeling dry, so always rinse your hair with warm water.

5. Try a different hairstyle

According to the AAD, repeatedly wearing the same hairstyle, such as braids or ponytails, can tug on hair strands and cause tension, leading to breakage. Try wearing your hair down or changing your hairstyle to a messy ponytail or a low, loose bun. A low-tension hairstyle will optimally protect your hair from breakage.

6. Use a t-shirt to dry wet hair

After washing your hair, your first instinct may be to rub a towel over your hair to absorb excess water. Cotton towels can be rough and cause friction, leading to breakage, so use an old cotton t-shirt instead. Carefully absorb hair instead of rubbing to absorb excess moisture.

7. Wait before starting to blow dry your hair

When you blow-dry your hair right after shampooing, it can take a long time for your hair to dry completely, and that causes your hair to be more susceptible to heat damage. You should wait until your hair is about 75% dry before using the dryer. You'll expose your hair to less heat and spend less time drying.

8. Don't dye your hair too often

We know how annoying dark roots can be, but dying your hair too often can be the cause of breakage. Dry hair is more susceptible to breakage, and dyeing your hair too often can dry out and damage your hair, leading to breakage. It's best to wait about 4 to 6 weeks (or longer) between hair dyes to maintain the integrity of your hair. If you dye your hair, use Nubea shampoo and conditioning products specifically for dyed hair. 9. Sleep on silk pillows

Friction between your hair and your pillowcase while you sleep can actually lead to breakage. Silk or satin is softer on the hair, so consider investing in a silk pillowcase that won't make your hair rough while you sleep. Additionally, you can also wrap your hair with a silk scarf or satin cap before going to bed.

10. Regularly trim the ends of your hair

Split ends can lead to breakage and sometimes the only (and best) way to solve this problem is to cut them off. This is why regular haircuts are so important. If you're dealing with a lot of breakage, you may want to recreate your new hair and try dramatic cuts like a pixie cut or wavy bob.
